The Secret of TOEIC Shadowing
What is toeic
shadowing? And can you really study for toeic with this
technique? Yes! It is a great way to study; you can
practice listening and at the same time speaking. With lots
of
practice, you will begin to understand what 'sounds right' in English.
So, how do you shadow English? It is actually very
easy. First choose some English that you want to listen to
and
practice; I recommend using the stories recorded on this site (see
below). Then begin listening. As you listen, Repeat
every
word that you hear. Its that easy.
But you will have questions.
Some students say 'Its too difficutl!'
No, nothing is
too difficult. If it
feels difficult, you are trying too hard. do not try to say
every
word perfectly; you probably can't. Just repeat what you can,
and
leave it at that. You will get better with more toeic.
How much should I be able to repeat?
If
you can repeat 10% of the words that is ok. But since many
people
are not satisfied with that, then choose some material that you can
repeat 50% of the words, then you will feel more satisfied.
Keep on doing your toeic shadowing.
The speaking is too fast!
Don't
try to say everything; say only what you can hear. With time
and
lots of practice, you will hear more and more of the words at the fast
speed.
Give yourself time to improve before you complain, and keep
on practicing toeic shadowing!

Elroy just finished a meeting with a group of investors. He
wants them to invest in his internet business so that he can expand it
and hire a team to develop
the business. He addressed
them formally, avoiding
friendly words at first because he knew he had to develop a
relationship first. His strategy
for developing the relationship was to gather information
about each investor by observing their body language, and evaluating their
responses to different words after that. Then using that
knowledge, he spoke in a friendly way.
His primary
goal was to reassure each investor that his business was already a strong business.
He demonstrated
how he can avoid risk in his business in a multimedia presentation.
His business has been growing steadily but he thinks now that
hard work cannot substitute for cash to employ a team to help him build
the business faster. The investors agree and now they are
discussing what kind of offer they want to make. Elroy is
satisfied with his work today.
