Shadow it!

M.M. had trouble listening to English. Listening was very difficult, so at first he did not want to practice shadowing my stories. Finally, he started to practice shadowing. He practiced everyday on the way to work. After a year and a half, he came into my class, very happy. He said, "I was listening to people speaking English on an elevator... and I understood them!"

The fastest way to increase your listening skill! You will:

Shadow Reading

R.F. had trouble listening to English. She said, 'it doesn't sound like the writing!' This is a common problem and it was a big problem for her. She started shadow reading. Three months later she told me that listening was 'much easier now'.

Learn the natural pronunciation of phrases and expressions by shadow reading. Read the script out loud at the same time as you listen. Notice the natural pronunciation of the English you are reading. Practice it to make it sound natural.

Jumble

Y.F. often forgot the 'small words' when she did listen and repeat. This was very frustrating for her at the start. After she started the 'Jumble' practice, she began to notice the small words more and more. The meaning became clearer to her and her speaking also improved a lot!

Have you studied grammar? Great! Knowing grammar can really help you to 'get' what you hear. Use that knowledge to unscramble the jumbled sentences that you hear.

Listen and Repeat

M.B. could not answer my English questions in class. Even a short question was 'too long'. She started practicing 'listen and repeat'. She did this practice for four months. One day, she came to class and I asked her a causal, but medium long question. She repeated it perfectly twice, thought a bit and then answered perfectly. That was her first big success!

Understanding is useless if you can't remember. You have to practice remembering English. Listen to it. Stop the audio. Repeat what you heard. Check what you said on these pages.
