Looking for job

by Suela
(Brazil)

When Mary decided to move to another country, looking for new job opportunities, she did not know how many trouble would find there. Tammy, her friend who already lived there , said that would be easy to get a job and at free time to take up English classes. In the plane she couldn’t help to think how much good would be for her to pick up her English speaking skill. Her friend was waiting for her at the airport, but seemingly , she was not happy. In their way home, Tammy told her that had just lost her job, but she wanted to leave this issue over for while. Now, they had so many things to remember and to talk about, that it was better to wipe off the job problem of their minds. Next day , when they started talking about job, Mary soon caught on that it would not be so easy as her friend had said. And now, more than ever, she would get into trouble if she did not get a job very soon.

Here is my edited version:

When Mary decided to move to another country, looking for new job opportunities, she did not know how much
trouble she would find there.

Tammy, her friend who already lived there, said that it would be easy to get a job and take up English classes in her free time.
In the plane she couldn’t help thinking about how much good it would be for her to raise (#1) her English
speaking skill.

Her friend was waiting for her at the airport, but seemingly, she was not happy. On their way home, Tammy told her that she had
just lost her job, but she wanted to leave this issue for a while. Now, they had so many things to remember and to talk about,
that it was better to wipe the job problem out (#2) of their minds.

The next day , when they started talking about jobs, Mary soon caught on that it would not be as easy as her friend had said.
And now, more than ever, she would get into trouble if she did not get a job very soon.

#1 not pick up because she already has a small amount of skill
#2 not wipe off... wipe out collocates better with mind
