An unexpected experience
by Suela
Here is my edited version: One time, we went to a beautiful tourist city in a mountain region. As a consequence of being so famous and so visited, in this city the hotels were very expensive, and we decided to stay over in a nearby city. We arrived in the hotel at night, did the check in, settled things down and went to a pizzeria. The night was nice and warm, and after eating, we stood there drinking, singing, making jokes, and having fun. When we saw that one of my friends started mixing things up and got completely dizzy, we realized that she was not used to drinking. Then we decided to go back to the hotel. Entering the hall we had to make up an excuse to the receptionist, since her behaviour was not suitable. The next morning at six a.m, it was still dark, when there was a strong sound of fireworks exploding, followed by ringing bells, which woke up everyone. We soon realized what it was, since we could see the flash of the fireworks throught the window. On the back side of the hotel, in the bedroom my friend that had gotten drunk could not understand what was happening, since she could not see the flash of the fireworks. Half-asleep, she, crawled desperately to the other bed where her roommate was screaming, "let’s get away, let’s get away ; the air conditioners are going to blow up!" The hotel was very near to the church, being separeted from it by only a quite narrow street. On that day there was going to be a big party in the church, to pay tribute to the patron saint. It was a tradition to wake up the city at six a.m, with fireworks, ringing the bells and, after about five minutes, starting playing the music Holy Mary (Gounod). It was so wonderful and touching that my eyes filled with tears. But for my friend it was a scary experience. For the rest of the trip it was as the source of many jokes such as; "Be careful! It’s going to blow up!" ©2008-2011 |
